What DV Wise does
Ground up custom home building around Lake Norman
DV Wise builds one thing: a custom home, built from a raw lot to a finished house. That is the whole business. There is no additions line and no remodeling division running alongside it, and no production schedule pulling attention off your job. Tom Wise, the owner, personally oversees each project from the first walk of the land to the day you get the keys. Read about that process on our process page, or get in touch to talk about your lot.

Where every job actually starts
These three set what everything after them costs and how it behaves once the house is standing on it.
Site evaluation
Before you commit to a lot, we walk it with you. Slope, tree cover, how the water moves across it, where utilities can reach, what the soil does once it is opened up. Two lots that look the same from the road can build very differently, and this is where that gets found out.
Land clearing and preparation
Taking a wooded or overgrown lot down to a buildable site. We keep the trees worth keeping and open up only the access a build actually needs, rather than stripping a lot bare because it is faster.
Grading and lot development
Shaping the land so water runs where it should and the house sits the way the lot wants it to, not the way a flat pad would. On a sloped or waterfront property around the lake, this step decides how the foundation below it behaves for the next fifty years.
Carried the rest of the way
The four that keep the job on track
None of this shows up in a photo of a finished kitchen, but skip any one of these four and the site evaluation and grading above stop mattering. This is what Tom Wise is actually doing between site visits.
Permit coordination
Handling the paperwork and inspections that come with building on land in North Carolina, so you are not chasing a county office between meetings with us.
Full custom home construction
Foundation, framing, exterior finishes and interior detail, carried through as one continuous job under Tom Wise rather than handed between crews who have never met.
Project management
One person tracking the schedule, the subcontractors and the budget against what was actually agreed, so surprises get caught early instead of at closing.
Final walkthrough and homeowner handoff
A walk through the finished house together, room by room, before the keys change hands. Anything that needs attention gets named and fixed before you move in, not after.

Who we build for
Both luxury and modest custom homes, primary residences and second homes. Every client still gets the same owner on their site.
Families relocating to North Carolina
Coming from out of state and building the first home you will actually own here, rather than renting while you decide.
Retirees moving to the area
Settling near the lake for the next chapter, often with single level living and long term comfort in mind from the first conversation.
Waterfront and acreage buyers
Larger or lakefront lots that need a builder who has actually graded and built on slopes and shoreline setbacks before, not one learning on your property.
Homeowners building forever homes
Not a starter house and not a flip. A home built once, to be lived in for decades, with decisions made accordingly.
