Second generation, family owned
The company started with Tom Wise's father. It is still one family running it.
DV Wise, Inc. goes back to 1962, when Tom Wise's father started the business here in Sherrills Ford. Tom grew up around the work, not visiting a jobsite once in a while but actually in it, watching how a house gets put together and what it costs you later if you skip a step now. That is where he learned the value of doing it right the first time, and it is the same standard the company still builds to.
Tom eventually took the company over from his father, which makes DV Wise a second generation, family owned business with more than six decades of building experience behind it. It has never been sold on, never been franchised and never grown into something bigger than one man could still put his hands on. That is a choice, not an accident. Being small on purpose is what lets Tom personally oversee every project, from the first walk of the land and site preparation through final construction and completion, rather than handing a homeowner off to a rotating site manager partway through.

Not a production builder
Unlike a large production builder, you get direct communication
Most of what makes a custom home feel custom is not visible on a walkthrough. It is details like this coffered ceiling and the glass front cabinets built around it, decided in conversation between the homeowner and the builder rather than picked off a standard options sheet. DV Wise takes on a small number of homes at a time so that kind of decision making stays possible on every one of them.
Tom Wise
Our company history dates back to 1962, when Tom Wise's father started the business.
Tom studied Business and Economics at Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating in 1989, then relocated from upstate New York to Mooresville, North Carolina in 2000. He has run DV Wise from this area ever since, which means the company's history with Lake Norman is not a marketing line. Tom has actually watched this part of the lake grow, lot by lot, for more than two decades.
He is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, a National Association of Home Builders credential most custom builders around this lake do not hold. He has also won multiple NCHBA STARS Awards, the Lake Norman Home Builders Association's Best of the Lake Design Competition, and holds an NCBI Accredited Master Builder accreditation. Tom has served as Past President of the local Home Builders Association as well. None of that changes how he runs a job day to day. It is the same person on your site from the first conversation about the land to the day the keys change hands.

Houses for living, homes for life
Craftsmanship in the parts nobody points a camera at
A tile inset like this one gets chosen and set the same way as the framing underneath it, with the same care. Tom's CAPS training brings the same attention to the parts of a home that matter later: doorways sized right, an entry with no step to catch a foot, blocking already in the walls so a grab bar can go up in twenty years without opening anything back up.
